Many systems use timing/synchronous belts to modify speeds and relay the torque that powers equipment from electric motors or other drives to the driven equipment. These belts require proper alignment to optimize the belted drive’s longevity, offering the benefits of safety and efficiency in your system. At Megadyne Group, we have high-quality industrial timing belts to meet the needs of a range of applications.

V-belts
V-belts are a variety of drive belts that feature tapered sides designed to fit into pulleys with side guides. Their unique shape, which features a trapezoidal cross-section, allows them to tightly wedge into grooved pulleys or sheaves and transmit power as tensions rise. V-belts are the most widely used type of drive belt due to their excellent torque transmission capabilities.

Flat Belts
Flat belts provide reliable movement for goods and components in commercial and industrial conveyance systems, such as assembly lines. While conveyance systems may use a wide variety of surfaces or mediums to transport goods, flat belts have become a popular option for their versatility.
Flat belts feature a flat surface that will accommodate a variety of goods, a textured surface on the top and bottom for superior grip, and efficient transmission of power from the conveyor’s rolling parts. Keep reading to learn more about the advantages of flat belts, some of their most popular applications, and high-quality flat belt products from Megadyne.

Linear Actuators
A machine tool manufacturer experienced problems with a belt-driven linear actuator on a CNC machine. The synchronous belts from a competitor suffered from elongation and did not deliver the necessary, highly accurate positioning that is essential in machining operations. They required frequent tensioning and were also susceptible to breakage due to shock loading. The application required a high degree of reliability and repeatability over extended periods with high acceleration and high thrust demands. A low-maintenance, cost-effective, lightweight, quiet and efficient system was desired. The belts from a competitor were not delivering acceptable performance.
